Tatung of Taiwan to Further Explore China Market This Year
2012/08/22 | By Renee ChenTaipei, Aug. 22, 2012 (CENS)--Tatung Corp., perhaps the oldest home appliance maker in Taiwan, plans to continue exploring the Chinese market this year, specifically eastern and southern China.
An executive of Tatung said the move is based on the huge business potential in China, India, and Southeast Asia where rice is the staple food taken daily by around three billion people, so promoting its automatic rice cooker makes sense, adding that the maker has decided to promote and sell products under its own brand.
Tatung has been exporting automatic rice cookers, pressure cookers, and electronic cookers since 2009, also aiming in the long-term to export 10 million rice cookers yearly.
The maker shipped several containers of automatic rice cookers to China at the end of 2010, having launched the product in a Taiwanese-run shopping mall, RT-Mart, in Shenzhen to test local consumer response.
Tatung plans to start promotions in eastern and southern China where most Taiwanese businesses are clustered, and then introduce other branded products as LED lighting depending on market response.
The firm also invested US$ 3 million in its Chinese subsidiary, Tatung Home Appliances (Wu Jiang) Co., Ltd., which mainly sells electronic equipment, home appliances, and medical equipment.
