Quanta, Hon Hai Gain Steam from Launch of Apple’s New iMac
2012/12/03 | By Steve ChuangTaipei, Dec. 3, 2012 (CENS)--With Apple Inc.’s new iMac all-in-one desktop PC expected to be a hot-seller in a persistently slack consumer market, Taiwanese PC and parts manufacturers involved in the supply chain, such as Quanta Computer Inc. and Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd., are very likely to gain steam from the newly launched device.
The newest iMac, already available for retail at Apple’s stores, franchises stores and online shops worldwide since November 30, features a 21.5-inch widescreen, runs on Apple’s Mountain Lion operating system, and is 80% thinner than its preceding edition. These attractions give institutional investors a good reason to believe that shipment of the device will exceed one million units in the fourth quarter of 2012.
In fact, the new iMac should have been shipped since this September, but its beefed-up performance in hardware, which added to manufacturing difficulties, caused delivery to be postponed several times till the end of November.
The launch of new iMac, the investors said, will inject considerable growth momentum into Taiwanese PC and parts suppliers who are contracted by Apple to produce the devices. Among them, Hon Hai is contracted to turn out the PC model’s housings, while Quanta is engaged in assembly.
Meanwhile, other firms also involved in the supply chain of new iMac to herald promising outlooks in the short term are: Darfon Corp. and Jingyuan Computer Group, both Apple’s contract suppliers of keypads, Nishoku Technology Inc., a manufacturer of die cast tooling, Shin Zu Shing Co., Ltd. and Jarllytech Co., Ltd., PC hinge producers, Auras Technology Co., Ltd., a maker of thermal dissipation modules, G-Tech Optoelectronics Corp., a supplier of touch panel ITO (indium tin oxide) glass, Radiant Opto-Electronics Corp., a backlight module supplier, and Ko Ja (Cayman) Co., Ltd., a MTS (membrane touch switch) maker.
