Dinli Metal Industrial Co., Ltd., a major all terrain vehicle (ATV) manufacturer in Taiwan, recently announced that its 800cc motorcycle with continuous variable transmission (CVT), the first of its kind on the island, has passed emissions and safety certifications conducted by the Automotive Research & Testing Center (ARTC), and will be available in showrooms soon.

T.Y. Lu, chairman of Dinli, says that a typical, imported 800cc motorcycle retails for NT$500,000~NT$650,000 (US$16,666~US$21,666) in Taiwan, compared to Dinli's at half the price. He says that the new 800cc motorcycle has water-cooled, high-torque, single-cylinder motor, with female-friendly low-chassis.

According to Lu, the company has received orders from customers in the U.K., Germany, France, Turkey etc. for more than 6,000 motorbikes, and that sales of some 2,000 bikes is targeted in the first year after launch. Plus Dinli plans to soon set up four fully-owned flagship stores to sell the 800cc motorcycles.

An exporter of big-displacement ATVs in Taiwan, Dinli ships 500cc~800cc ATVs to 57 nations, having sold in 2012 about 12,000 ATVs globally to generate annual revenue of NT$1.65 billion (US$55 million).

In 2013, Lu says that the company aims to challenge annual revenue of NT$2.9 billion (US$96.7 million), up 75% from the previous year, adding that Dinli has big-motorcycle production line with annual capacity of 8,000 to 9,000 units, also planning to expand capacity in 2014 to 15,000 units.

In 2014, Lu says, Dinli is scheduled to launch a 1,130cc motorbike with CVT, and a 1,130cc four-wheel utility vehicle, which will be debuted at an agricultural equipment show in October in Taiwan. According to Lu, the new UTV features the automotive-grade power (hydraulic) steering system to rid the uneasiness of driving traditional UTVs.
