Computex Taipei 2006 Kicks Off Today

Taipei, June 6, 2006 (CENS)—Over 30,000 overseas buyers including 1,000 some from mainland China will attend Computex Taipei 2006, which kicks off today.

A total of 1,300 suppliers will demonstrate their latest products at over 2,900 booths at the five-day computer-trade show, currently the largest of its kind in Asia.

According to show co-organizer Taipei Computer Association, over 1,000 mainland Chinese buyers will attend the Taipei show, a new record high as compared with last year' s 800-some buyers. The buyers include Founder Group Corp. The association pointed out that relieved political tension between Taiwan and the mainland inspired more mainland Chinese buyers to visit the show.

The show' s participants pointed out that digital home, digital entertainment and platform convergence would be the trend of information-technology industry in light of the rollouts of various applications including Windows XP Media Center Edition and digital video broadcasting (DVB)

Major Taiwanese exhibitors at this year' s show include Acer, Asustek Computer, BenQ, VIA Technologies, Hon Hai Precision Industry, First International Computer, Gigabyte Technology, Micro Star International, Elitegroup Computer System, Mitac International, Arima Electronics, CMC Magnetics, Ritek, Inventec and Tatung.

Heavyweight international exhibitors include Nvidia, ATI, Fujitsu, Intel, AMD, Microsoft, Toshiba, Infineon Technology, Pine Technology and TI. Hong Kong, the United States, Japan, South Korea and Singapore offer the top-five foreign exhibitor groups at the show this year.

On the show ground, themes include auto electronics, IC application, IP telecom, WiMAX wireless technology and information security.
