Makalot's Profits Jump 13.9% to NT$1.637B. in 2013

Makalot Industrial Co., Ltd., a major garment maker in Taiwan, shipped 10.51 million dozens of garments in 2013, last year and raked in pretax profits of NT$1.637 billion (US$54.47 million) for a sharp annual rise of 13.9%.

L.P. Chou, the chairman, discloses that Makalot will spend about US$8-10 million in R&D to develop new cloths and fabricate more functional garments, also keep looking for new clients.

In 2014 Makalot continues to expand overseas operations in Indonesia, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Thanks to successful horizontal and vertical manufacturing integration strategy, the company is expected to see a 2% rise in average sales price (ASP) this year with estimated record high profits of NT$21 billion (US$700 million) for the year.

Moreover, Makalot will expand its markets in Europe and Asia and has recently become a new contractor of Under Armour, a  leading sportswear brand. Chou says that Makalot will fabricate sports jackets for the brand at quoted price of US$60 per dozen.

Currently the company's major clients include Kohls, Target, Gap, Walmart and Uniqlo, to whom shipments generate 88% of revenues. (JL)
