Over 90% of Taiwan’s New Graduates Intend to Find Jobs: yes123

2014/03/20 | By Judy Li

A survey conducted late February by yes123, a human resource website in Taiwan, shows that 90.7% of the polled who will graduate this summer intend to find jobs right after graduation, with such percentage being the highest of its kind ever seen on the website.

The top-3 most sought after jobs, according to the survey, are in information technology, civil services, and recreational and tourism industry. The job seekers expect starting monthly salaries of NT$31,000 (US$1,033), much higher than the average NT$26,000 (US$866.7) as cited by the Ministry of Labor for new recruits with college education.

The survey also indicates that pay is the first priority that influences a job seeker's decision to accept a position, followed by job prospect, job potential, interest and aptitude.

Rising globalization also encourages more and more young people to find opportunities overseas. Of the polled, 78.7% express intention of seeking jobs overseas, with the top-3 destinations being Japan, China and the United States. Generally, new graduates usually spend about 2.5 months to find first jobs.

Of the polled enterprises, 84.1% intend to recruit new graduates this year and the average number new recruits will be 4.6 persons.  Employers say the most important traits of  new employees are sense of responsibility, capacity to work under stress, and willingness to learn. (JL)
