Makalot Sees Record Highs in Q1 Revenues & Profits

2014/05/23 | By Judy Li

Makalot Industrial Co., a major Taiwanese garment maker, scored combined revenues of NT$5.213 billion (US$173.77 million) in the first quarter, a 21.3% YoY growth, with pretax profits up 32% to NT$595 million (US$19.83 million) with earnings per share of NT$3.52 (US$0.117). The company's revenues and pretax profit both hit quarterly record highs.

In March alone Makalot's pretax profits increased 21% from a year earlier to hit a record monthly high of NT$231 million (US$7.7 million); and in the first quarter its shipment reached 3.13 million dozens, breaking the record quarterly high of 2.77 million dozens in the third quarter of last year.

First quarter is usually a hot shipment season for spring and summer garments and third quarter for winter clothes. Normally revenues in the third are higher than the first as prices of winter clothes are much higher than those of summer ones. However, the shipment, revenues and profits in the first quarter of this year were all higher than those in the third quarter of last year, showing very good business climate this year.

Many famous international garment brands such as GAP, Inditex, H&M, etc. are Makalot's clients. Starting this year Makalot has become one of the seven Tier-1 suppliers of GAP, a renowned American garment brand, and is expected to see a whopping rise of 70% in order volume from the brand for the year.

Seeing growing overseas market, Makalot intends to establish a plant in Indonesia this year and also expand production lines in  Vietnam and Cambodia. (JL)
