Domestic Banks' Per-Capita-Staff Contribution Averages NT$2.033M in Q1, 2014

Taiwan's 40 domestic banks, including Commercial Bank, Industrial Bank, Export-Import Bank, and Agricultural Bank of Taiwan, scored combined pretax profits of NT$83.908 billion (US$2.8 billion) in Q1, with per-capita-staff contribution averaging NT$2.0327 million (US$67,757), according to the statistics released by the central bank.

Of which, 21 witnessed per-capita contribution exceed NT$2 million (US$66,667) with China Development Industrial Bank boasting the highest of NT$17.5238 million (US$584,127). However, King's Town Bank led with NT$6.6312 million (US$221,040) among commercial banks while Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corp. (HSBC) outstripped Citibank to be No. 1 among foreign banks.

Last year Citibank's per-capita contribution stood at NT$2.5591 million (US$85,303), the highest among foreign banks, followed by HSBC and Australia & New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) with NT$2.2446 million (US$74,820) and NT$1.3256 million (US$44,187), respectively.

However in Q1, 2014 the per-capita contribution by HSBC's employees reached NT$2.9052 million (US$96,840) to outpace that of Citibank to lead the foreign banks, with  ANZ taking the second place with NT$2.8408 million (US$94,693). (JL)
