Taiwanese Airlines See Revenue Peak in June

2014/07/29 | By Steve Chuang

With summer travel driving up passenger loading, Taiwan's major airlines, China Airlines Ltd., EVA Airways Corp. and Transasia Airways Corp., all saw revenue take off in June.

China Airlines, the one with the largest fleet on the island, scored revenue of NT$12.529 billion (US$417.63 million) in the month, up 7.15% year-on-year (YoY) or 1.02% month-on-month (MoM) and a 10-month high, adding to its cumulative revenue of NT$72.263 billion (US$2.408 billion) for H1 this year, up 7.5% year-on-year.

To fully tap the summer peak season, China Airlines focuses on steadily surging demand  between Taiwan and China, having recently   launched new routes from Taoyuan to China's Changchun, Hefei, Yantai and Xuzhou in July, and also increased flights to Wenzhou, Nanchang and Lijiang, all of which will likely further push up revenue in the months to come.

EVA Airways reported revenue of NT$11.391 billion (US$379.7 million) for June, for YoY growth of 5.39% or MoM increase of 6.83%, as well as an 8-month zenith, with H1 revenue of  NT$62.33 billion (US$2.077 billion), up 4.98% YoY.

Also optimistic about growing demand for air travel across the Taiwan Strait, EVA Airways has just started flying new routes in association with its subsidiary, Uni Airways Corp., from Taoyuan International Airport to China's Shijiazhuang, Wenzhou and Taiyuan at once in July, which will likely enhance its performance significantly in July-August.

Transasia Airways posted NT$1.211 billion (US$40.39 million) in June revenue, sharply up 17.99% YoY or 2.97% MoM to hit an 11-month record, and finish H1 with cumulative revenue of NT$6.487 billion (US$216.23 million), rising 12.81% yearly.

Following the footsteps of its Taiwanese peers looking to explore the increasingly promising  Cross-strait air travel market, Transasia Airways has started flying three new Taoyuan-Quanzhou, Taoyuang-Guiyang and Kaohisung-Yichang routes, after having launched Taichung-Zhangjiajie and Kaohsiung-Lanzhou charter flights in June, all of which will likely record an all-time revenue high in July.
