W Hotel Tops Taipei with June RevPAR of NT$8,277
2014/08/06 | By Judy LiThanks partly to the influx of international visitors attending Computex Taipei 2014 on June 3-6, the city's five-star hotels, including W Hotel Taipei, Le Meridien Taipei, Regent Taipei, Grand Hyatt Taipei, and Hotel Royal-Nikko Taipei, all witnessed thriving business in June. Le Meridien and W Hotel both saw their average room rate (the rate actually paid for rooms that are occupied) for the month break the NT$10,000 (US$333.33) mark.
W Hotel topped all of Taipei's hotels in revenue per available room (RevPAR)--this includes the average paid for each room that is available, whether occupied or not--with a figure of NT$8,277 (US$275.9) for the month, along with a high occupancy rate of 82%. Le Meridien followed with a RevPAR of NT$7,884 (US$262.8) and an occupancy rate of nearly 70%. The Regent, Grand Hyatt, and Hotel Royal posted RevPARs of NT$4,908 (US$163.6), NT$4,806 (US$160.2,) and NT$4,656 (US$155.2), respectively.
The Regent raked in revenues of NT$130 million (US$4.33 million) from its food and beverage operations in June, the most of all hotels in Taiwan. The Regent also took the lead in terms of operating revenue, with NT$270 million (US$9 million), followed by the Grand Hyatt and Sheraton Taipei. The Grand Hyatt performed well in terms of operating revenue despite the fact that a third of its 853 guest rooms were under renovation in June.
The W Hotel, with 405 guest rooms, chalked up operating revenues of NT$190 million (US$6.33 million) in June, much of it as a result of pool-side theme parties that attracted tourists from Hong Kong and Singapore as well as local party-goers. (JL)
