J.N. Yang Promoted to Head Taiwan's BOFT

2014/09/01 | By Judy Li

J. N. Yang, deputy chief negotiator of the Office of Trade Negotiations (OTN) under Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), has been promoted to lead the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) to replace C. F. Chang, becoming  BOFT's first female director general.

Yang, also deputy chief negotiation of OTN, feels the exigency to restart the merchandise trade talk with China particularly when South Korea is to sign a free trade agreement with China at the end of this year.

Yang also aims to step up coordination of safeguarding Taiwan's rights in global trade, promoting Taiwan's participation in bilateral/regional/multilateral trade blocs, and helping explore global markets for exports of Taiwan's goods and services.

Prior to her new post, Yang took part in many international trade talks including those with New Zealand, Singapore, the United States and China as deputy chief negotiator of OTN. In addition, she was economic advisor at Taiwan's Permanent Mission to the World Trade Organization (WTO), where she honed skills for multilateral negotiation in  the Doha Trade Talk as well as amendments to the Dispute Settlement Understanding (DSU).
