Taiwan's Pay Rise to be 2nd Lowest in Asia in 2015: ECA

2014/11/21 | By Judy Li

Taiwan’s employees are forecast to see average 4% growth in pay in 2015, the second lowest in Asia and only higher than Japan’s  2.3%, but far lower than China’s 8%, according to the latest salary trends survey by ECA International, provider of knowledge, information and technology for management and assignment of global employees.

After taking inflation into account, Taiwan’s wage growth will be reduced to 2% next year, even lower than this year’s 2.6% in real wage rises.

ECA’s survey this year is based on information collected from 340 multinational companies across 66 countries and regions. According to its predictions worldwide, wages will rise 5.8% on average in 2015, slightly up from this year’s 5.6%. Companies in Argentina are forecasting 28% pay rises next year, the highest globally.

Generally, Latin America has the  highest increases in the survey, and the lowest are expected in the Europe as Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland. Salaries in Asia are expected to increase 7.2% in 2015 with the largest uplifts being in Pakistan and the lowest in Japan. However, factoring in inflation, real wage rises in Asia will average 2.7%.

In China 8% salary increases are predicted in 2015 but will be only  5.5% after considering inflation. (JL)
