Taiwan’s electronics manufacturers benefit from IFA
2017/08/29 | By Alan LuAs the global electronics market indicator, IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung Association), the world's leading trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances taking place from September 1 through 6 in Berlin, Germany, is expected to benefit several Taiwan-based international firms including Asus, Acer, Hon Hai, and Teco.
Although Hon-Hai is not one of the exhibitors of IFA, Terry Gou, the chairman of the firm, is still invited by the IFA host to be the keynote speaker for IFA 2018. IFA’s invitation tells that Hon-Hai’ role as the major player in the global electronics market is undoubtedly recognized by the world.
As the world's largest EMS (electronic manufacturing service) provider by size and a major OLED supplier for iPhone, Hon-Hai plans to witness another revenue boom with the launch of iPhone 8.
Meanwhile, Asus and Acer, the two leading PC and lap-top manufacturers, both plan to host the international press conferences before IFA to launch the new array of products, aiming to catch the global buyers’ eyes before the show takes place.
Facing the increasingly competitive electronics market, Asus and Acer, are both switching their targets to the high standard niche markets like e-sports and bitcoin mining.
Also notable is that Teco, the well-known manufacturer of home appliances, telecommunications equipment, IT systems, electromechanical components, and commercial electronics, plans to tap “smart” home appliance market with its edge of technology know-how.
Sophia Chiu, the chairperson of Teco, noted that although this year’s uncertain factors are looming, the opportunities have increased sharply as well; Therefore, Teco also expects to see its combined revenue exceed NT$ 50 billion (US$) in 2017.
