Foxconn Moves Ahead with Zero Greenhouse Emission Goals By 2050

2020/11/06 | By CENS

On Friday, Foxconn Technology announced its intention to achieve zero greenhouse emission goals before 2050, based on the Paris Agreement. The conglomerate also intends to follow the three goals as laid out by the CA100+, that firms under Foxconn Technology Group will adhere to local governments' carbon emission policies and continue to improve transparency regarding its emission actions data TCFD recommendations.

This comes after the U.S.' withdrawal from the Paris Agreement was formalized on Nov. 5. U.S. President Donald Trump initially announced that the U.S. would leave the global pact on climate change back in June 2017. Yet the delay was largely due to complex rules drafted into the agreement, meant to prevent future leaders' decision to withdraw in the future.

TCFD data indicated that Foxconn has already made its pledges in 2019 regarding carbon emissions and planned to begin implementing its policies in the latter half of 2020. The electronics manufacturer has focused on optimizing energy management centers, constructing networked smart energy, green factory assessment, carbon-reduction programs, and optimizing energy-saving technologies. These efforts are directed at improving energy-using efficiency and lowering operation costs.

Foxconn has increased its low carbon energy implementation as social awareness among clients, and society became more apparent. Currently, factories in China that have implemented clean energy powering equipment and purchased clean energy make up 952.02 million kWh or 9.93% of its used power.
