Smart City Summit and Expo kicks off, hybrid show boasts pre-covid numbers

Taipei Computer Association Chairman Paul Peng said the 2021 Smart City Summit and Expo could reach buyers in over 150 countries through offline and virtual exhibitions. Foreign buyers could make up over 70% of total visitors and bring in 600,000 online viewership.

During the show's opening ceremony, Peng said in his remarks that even if the upper half of 2021 is still uncertain due to COVID-19, the work to develop smart cities will not wait.

This year's hybrid show saw a total of 251 exhibitors showcasing and ten county and city governments attending, using up an approximate 1,000 booths. These statistics are on par compared to pre-COVID numbers, Peng said.

He also laid out expectations to see more county or city governments introduce testing locations to apply smart capabilities. This year, Kaohsiung City Government made its debut at the Smart City Summit and Expo, focusing on exporting smart cities to the Southeast and South Asian regions.
