Smart City & IoT expo kicks off showcasing energy solutions

2022/03/23 | By CENS

The 2022 Smart City and IoT exhibition kicked off on March 22, featuring top Taiwanese brands showcasing related applications in the sector. It is worth noting that in addition to 5G-related extension and other mainstream smart city applications, energy storage has become a highlight at this show, notably, TECO, Far EasTone, and Gogoro all have offered relative solutions.

According to statistics from the Taipei Computer Association, the organizer of this year's smart city exhibition, the scale of this year's exhibition has increased by 50% compared to the 2021 edition. Nearly 1,500 booths were used, encompassing 188 exhibitors from 34 overseas countries and 76 foreign city mayoral heads or representatives were online networking. On the other hand, 45 city heads or representatives came to Taiwan to attend in person, seeking to export Taiwan's smart city solutions overseas through the exhibition.

This year's exhibitors focus on 5G and smart city applications. For example, Compal launched various 5G NR integrated small base stations to meet outdoor and indoor application scenarios and exhibited 5G enterprise private networks, smart terminal networking, and 5G remote collaboration. More mature application scenarios will further implement smart city applications. Acer's subsidiary Acer ITS exhibited the world's first solution of "Smart Parking and Charging Posts and smart toll collectors" in Taipei and Kaohsiung.

Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection of the Ministry of Economic Affairs has also joined forces with legal persons such as the Insitute for Information Industry, the Metal Industries Research and Development Center, the Industrial Technology Research Institute and the Telecommunications Technology Center to formulate national standards for 5G smart poles to assist manufacturers in product development.

The energy storage application is the highlight of this year, and both Far EasTone and TECO have launched relevant community solutions. Among them, TECO's "Smart Energy Monitoring Platform Solution" has been adopted by a local community in New Taipei City. It uses solar energy during the day to generate electricity, and the excess power is stored in the energy storage system to serve as a backup solution for households in the community during peak power consumption at night. The system includes monitoring systems and energy storage systems.
