Taiwan's Machine Tool Exports Reach US$192 Million in May, Marking Both Monthly and Annual Growth

The Taiwan Machine Tool & Accessory Builders' Association (TMBA) announced that Taiwan's machine tool exports totaled approximately US$192 million in May, representing an 8.7% increase compared to April, and a 6.7% increase compared to the same month last year. Among them, metal cutting machine tools recorded exports of US$163 million, up 12.1% from April; whereas metal forming machine tools saw exports of US$28.15 million, down 7.7% from April.

According to the Association, total machine tool exports from January to May this year reached US$819 million, down 7.1% year-on-year. Specifically, cumulative exports for metal cutting machine tools were US$669 million, an 8.8% decline from the same period last year, while exports of metal forming machine tools amounted to around US$150 million, a slight increase of 1% year-on-year.

From January to May, the top ten export destinations, ranked by export value, were China (including Hong Kong), the United States, Turkey, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, the Netherlands, Brazil, and Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Taiwan's machine tool imports totaled around US$42.28 million in May, decreasing by 9.8% compared to April and slightly dropping by 0.5% compared to May last year. Imports of metal cutting machine tools amounted to about US$35.24 million, down 9.7% from April, while imports of metal forming machine tools reached US$7.04 million, down 10% from April.
