Taipei, Aug. 2, 2004 (CENS)--Lite-On Information Technology Corp., one of Taiwan's leading manufacturers of information technology products, will challenge a shipment goal of three million DVD (digital versatile display) recorders next year.

Thanks to its efforts to deploy global distribution channels and the influx of OEM (original equipment manufacturing) orders, Lite-On anticipated it would double shipment next year from this year's level.

The company targets to grab 10% to 15% of the global market, which is projected to see sales of 25 million DVD recorders next year.

In the past, Lite-On mainly sold own-brand products through its own distribution channels. But the company anticipated the OEM orders will fuel its sales growth next year.

At present, the company's OEM orders mainly come from Philips. Recently the company is said to have secured OEM orders from Hewlett Packard for VHS/DVD combo machines named Movie Writer.

Lite-On has got involved in system integration and software development for the production of DVD recorders for over three years. The company boasted it would see the effect of system integration and software development emerge in the second half of this year.

The company noted its shipments of DVD recorders to the European and the U.S. marketplaces have grown rapidly as its products have won certification from the U.S. and European distributors. Currently the company is capable of shipping 5,000 up to 6,000 DVD recorders per month to Costco chain stores in the U.S. market, and another 20,000 units per month to European distributors, including Casino and Dixon.

Lite-On President H.F. Liao said his company spent a few years to penetrate home-appliance distribution channels from original IT ones. Liao boasted his company has received inquiries from some brand creators because of its capability of launching custom-design products.
