Upright Group Australia Pty Ltd. Has recently added to its luster as a top producer of industrial nuts with a "smart" product called the TekNut, which management boasts features a unique high-tech internal mechanism.

The nut is used to fasten saw blades, grinding blades, and other types of blade to machines. The special mechanism allows the nut to be easily tightened and loosened with the bare hands, without any need for auxiliary tools such as screwdrivers. The TekNut comes in two basic models featuring different thread-pitch distances. The M10 has a pitch distance of 1.5mm, while that of the M14 is 2mm. The M10 fits blades 100mm in diameters for tools supplied by Hitachi, Makita, Ryobi, Skil, and Wolf. The M14 is designed for blades 115mm, 125mm, 180mm, and 230mm in diameter used in tools supplied by AEG, Black & Decker, Bosch, Elu, Fein, Hitachi, Kanga, Makita, Metabo, Ryobi, Wolf, DeWalt, and Skil. They can also be supplied in accordance with customized specifications.

The patented nut was brought to market late last year; it is available under the company's own brand and also under customers' brands. The nut was developed and is being made by the group's Taiwan affiliate, and is marketed through its Australian affiliate. It has to date been patented in Taiwan and Germany; the company is in the process of filing patents in Australia and mainland China, and patent approval in the United States is pending.
