Taiwanese home appliance makers to show new products at CeBIT 2004

Taipei, March 16, 2004 (CENS)--Four major Taiwanese home appliance makers are ready to debut a series of latest digital information products at the CeBIT 2004, an annual computer show to be held March 18-24 in Hannover, Germany.

Tatung Co. will have several booths occupying 176 square meters at the exhibition Hall 2 of the Hannover fairgrounds to demonstrate its latest products developed by six business departments. This demonstrates the firm's determination to take Europe as one of its most important markets.

Tatung president W.S. Lin said that his company has sophistically mapped out several show themes to demonstrate its digital products at the CeBIT 2004, including the "forhome" series flat panel display (FPD) TV models; multimedia personal computers; the "for mobile worker" series digital portable music players; wireless simplified computer models; handheld multimedia storage devices; the "foroffice" series high-efficiency servers; home/office broadband image telephone series; and home/office tablet PC models etc. Lin claimed that the new products were developed to allow users to enjoy better working and entertainment atmosphere with the multiplying digital information products.

In addition, Tatung's display business division director Wang Yen-yuan will give a speech to introduce the development trend of the global display industry and Tatung's business deployment at a seminar during the show period.

Tatung said that it would also demonstrate full-range liquid crystal display (LCD) and plasma display panel (PDP) TVs at CeBIT 2004 to win more orders from European customers. The firm has developed a series of phase alternating line (PAL)/sequential color with memory (SECAM) color TV broadcast format-compatible models and a 32-inch digital video broadcasting-terrestrial (DVB-T) TV model. Tatung said that it currently has LCD TV models available with 17-, 20-, 23-, 26-, 27- and 30-inch screens; as well as 42-, 46- and 50-inch PDP TV models.

At the CeBIT 2004, Teco Electric & Machinery Co., Ltd. Will demonstrate a series of "Home Media Center" new products.

Wu Hung-ting, CEO of Teco's home appliance and air conditioner business group, will give a speech on the development of Taiwan's LCD TV industry.

Sampo Co. will focus on displaying its PDP and LCD TV products at the world's largest computer show. According to Sampo, it shipped about 100,000 PDP TVs last year and the volume is expected to rise to 200,000 this year, making the Taiwan company one of the world's top-three suppliers of such products.

Sampo plans to demonstrate its latest 42- and 50-inch extended graphics array (XGA, with resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels) PDP TV models, as well as high-resolution 20-, 27- and 30-inch LCD TVs at the CeBIT 2004.

Taiwan Kolin Co. will debut its latest 50-inch LCOS (liquid crystal on silicon) technology TV model, as well as 30-, 27-, 23-, 17- and 15-inch LCD TVs at the show. The company claimed that it has developed a series of TV products exclusively for the European market and is very confident of future sales in the market.
