Hsiang Lun Delivers Innovative and High Quality Gaskets

Established back in 1969, the Hsiang Lun Industrial Corp. has developed into one of Taiwan's most experienced makers of engine gaskets and overhaul kits. A comprehensive corporate-restructuring project carried out over the past four years has turned the ISO9001:2000- and QS9000-certified company into an even more competitive player in the global parts aftermarket.

Hsiang Lun claims that it is the most comprehensive supplier of aftermarket automobile-engine gaskets in Taiwan. Its gaskets can be used with 98% of all Japanese car and light-truck engines up to 5,000cc in size (up to the 2002 model year), over 75% of all Japanese truck and bus engines over 5,000cc, about 85% of all Korean car engines, and a growing percentage of European and American car and truck engines. The company also has Taiwan's widest range of engine gaskets for agricultural machines, boats, motorcycles, recreational vehicles such as snowmobiles and jet-skis, and generators.

Hsiang Lun pours about US$1 million into the development of 30 to 40 new gasket models a year--a rate, a company spokesman claims, that puts it at the forefront of the local industry. It is also developing advanced gaskets with integrated electronic sensors that are used on newer cars.

Hsiang Lun's product line covers all non- asbestos (industrial paper) gaskets, graphite gaskets, and the latest multi-layer steel (MLS) gaskets. The spokesman states that the firm at all times makes every effort to ensure that its products fully meet the specifications and quality requirements of original equipment (OE) parts. To this end, it uses the same materials that OE gasket makers adopt and does all of its production in-house. The company also boasts one of Taiwan's most comprehensive quality-testing laboratories.

The company has slashed operating costs by reducing its workforce to about 80, while shortening its delivery time to as little as 21 days. This rapid-response capability allows customers to reduce their inventories to a minimum.

Hsiang Lun's R&D team is constantly seeking out new materials and production techniques to improve the functions of the company's gaskets. Unlike some other aftermarket suppliers who look for new methods and substitute materials that can reduce costs, Hsiang Lun says it concentrates on achieving better-than-OE quality and the utmost in customer and user satisfaction. The company also stresses that it is the only company in the global aftermarket that offers a 15,000-mile guarantee on its products.
