HSP Opens Office To Help Taiwan IT Sector Raise Revenues
2008/01/25 | By Ken LiuTaipei, Jan. 25, 2008 (CENS)-Administration of Hsinchu Science Park recently opened an office to try to help Taiwan's high-tech industries upgrade their capability in innovative-technology development so that they can increase revenues generated from intellectual-property royalties.
The administration pointed out that although the science park is already worldwide known for hosting Taiwan's major high-tech industry clusters, most of the manufacturers at the park are still short of innovative technologies, compelling them to pay huge royalty for intellectual-property licensing.
Last year alone, the island's enterprises as a whole paid as much as US$2.3 billion for the licensing while receiving only US$244 million from licensing their IPs.
To improve the situation, the administration has been pushing the establishment of an environment suitable for Taiwanese high-tech manufacturers to develop innovative technologies.
The administration's director general, R.D. Huang, has assisted the administration push the IP-enhancement project by coming up with his experience in dealing with licensing cases involving his patents on optical-disc technologies he developed in the past before serving current position.
The office is equipped with IP-data and IP-law banks and makes law magazines available to manufacturers at the park. The office has formed a strong IP backup to manufacturers at the park with branches of several big-name IP consulting firms and several IP-laden manufacturers operating at the park.
