The company began automating its production lines in 2004. Now, the company's production lines, composed of material feeding, slitting, heat treatment, cooling, painting, baking, cooling, waxing and winding stages, need only two workers to take care pf the line after the automation program, a cut from five workers.
The company has contracted China Steel Corp., Taiwan's biggest steelmaker, to supply high-tensile steels for its products destined for advanced markets and is planning to buy super high-tensile steels for higher-end products.
Company chairman Lin Chih-hung says super high tensile steel can bear at least 95 kilograms of strain per square millimeter, compared with high tensile steel's minimum 85 kilograms per square millimeter and standard steel's 56 kilograms to 80 kilograms per square millimeter.
High- and higher-tensile straps are specifically developed for industrially advanced markets like Europe and the United States. The Middle East, North Africa, Southeast Asia and mainland China have long been the company's major markets. The company is using a computer-controlled painting system to enable it to evenly coat straps with paint in various thicknesses as required in the U.S. and European markets.
Young Lee's steel straps are already used by steel, cement, textile, electrical cable and wire, glass, machinery and wood industries for heavy-duty binding purposes. The company puts its brand name "YL" on products ordered by end users. (KL)
