Taipei, March 14, 2008 (CENS)--LED packager Bright LED Electronics Corp. recently landed orders from Vietnam and Thailand for its LED streetlights and will sign the supply contract soon, according to company sources.

Due chiefly to the latest orders, the company will revise upward its adjusted shipment goal of 50,000 roadway lights for this year, said the company's vice president, B.Y. Wang. Early this year, the company raised the goal from 30,000 lights to current level.

Bright LED is reported to have so far received the world's largest number of orders for LED streetlights since it began developing strong presence in mainland China's market for such lights and cooperating with the mainland's academic institutions on industrial standards for the lights.

The company mostly shipped 40-60W streetlights last year and has begun delivering 80W lights this year. It has 100W lights for verifications.

Wang expected her company's streetlight sales to double throughout this year thanks to orders from new and existing customers.

LED backlights for mobile phones are the company's another revenue earner. Wang said mainland China's mobile-phone market is recovering, giving her company a bright business outlook.

Wang said thanks to swarming orders for backlights and streetlights, her company has received over NT$400 million (US$12.5 million at US$1:NT$32) worth of orders for March and expected its revenue for the month to exceed a record high of NT$380 million (US$11.8 million) set in November 2007.

Surface mount device (SMD) type of LEDs and infrared LEDs will be the company's major growth drivers this year. The company will further boot output of the two LEDs, with output of SMD LEDs projected to increase to 380 million units a month and that of the other LEDs to surge to 250 million units.

For the expansions, the company plans capital expenditure for this year at NT$1 billion (US$31.2 million), two times last year's level.

The company is working with Cherry Automobile Co., Ltd., mainland China's eighth-largest carmaker, on LED turn signal lights, car reading lamps and tail lamps.
