TrendMicro Regains No. 1 Position in Taiwan's "Top 20" Brands for 2008
2008/10/02 | By Judy LiTaipei, Oct. 2, 2008 (CENS)--TendMicro," a brand of virus-protection software developed by TrendMicro Inc., regained the No. 1 position on list of Taiwan's top-20 brands this year, with projected annual sales value of US$1.326 billion, up US$184 million or 16% from last year.
"ASUS," the brand owned by motherboard, server, PC and notebook maker Asustek Computer Inc., closely followed with US$1.324 billion, although it took the first place last year. Acer and HTC, both also leading computer firms, took the third and fourth place with brand value of more than US$1.2 billion each. This year the top 10 brands boast an estimated combined value of US$7.537 billion. If including the following 10 brands, then the value will expand to US$9.141 billion.
Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) is the organizer of the "top brands" activity and has spared no efforts in promoting Taiwan's brand products to the world market. Wang Chih-kang, chairman of TAITRA, indicated that Taiwan's enterprises are growing stronger and stronger in developing innovative products and some of them have built own brands that have gained increasing reputation in the world market.
Wang said that Taiwan ranked No. 4 in terms of patent cases applied in the U.S., next only to the U.S., Japan and Germany, and ranked No. 3 in the number of patents approved. Interbrand Corp., a world's leading band consultancy, recently announced the world's top 100 brands for 2008 and among them Japan accounted for eight and South Korea three. Seeing the good performance in neighboring rivals, Wang is determined to help Taiwan squeeze its brands into the world's "top 100" brand club by 2010.
