Smart LED lights

Founded in 2002 to specifically make transformers for personal computers and ballasts, Better Magnetics Corp. has recently branched out into LED lighting segment and presented several smart products.

Its first LED product, which came on line in 2006, is a two-in-one controller for LED lighting strings. The device, certified with PSE and CE approvals, doubles as a power supply and a controller. The controller comes with timer, dimmer, and overload-protection designs.

Its rechargeable multi-function LED lamp, which has been patented, doubles as a bicycle lamp and a recharger. When used as a light, the system's edge is its one-watt Osram Golden Dragon LED emitter. Other devices integrated into the system include the Britain-made L2Optics lens, a backup power supply, a USB cable, a Sony PSP lithium battery. It can be refilled by connecting to a PC USB port, a transformer, a power outlet in electrical bikes, or a hub dynamo. When used as a rechargeable battery, it supplies power to such portable gadgets as PDAs, iPod, MP3 players, handsets, game consoles, and GPS navigation boxes.

The company's MR16 LED lamp drivers are rated from three watts to five watts in power output and has a wide input range, from 12 to 30 voltage AC. Maximum drive current for them is 1000mA. Short-circuit protection design is integrated into the drivers. Modularized design makes the drivers available for all types of MR16 lights. Constant-current design enables the drivers to enjoy long lifespan.

Modularized design is also applied to the company's power supplies for LED streetlights, making them easy to install. The supplies ensure lifespan as long as over 30,000 hours on condition that they are operating under 60 degrees Centigrade. They have obtained safety approvals including IEC60598-1, IEC60598-2-3, IEC61347-1, IEC61347-2-13 and UL1598, as well as electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) certificates including CISPR14, CISPR15, IEC61000-3-2, IEC61000-3-3, EN61547, and FCCPART 15. Also, they comply with U.S. Energy Star.
