2009/08/27 | By Quincy Liang

Taipei, Aug. 27, 2009 (CENS)--The Yulon Group, a major automobile manufacturing conglomerate in Taiwan, recently debuted its first own-branded LUXGEN multi-purpose van (MPV) model, the Luxgen7.

At the product launch press conference, Kenneth Yen, Yulon's CEO, claimed that Luxgen wants to position itself as a maker of intelligent cars and a leader to upgrade the local automotive industry, as well as to reshape the Made-in-Taiwan image in the global market.

Luxgen originally planned to hold the product launch early this year, with executives saying that the delay is the result of product quality reconfirmations.

Yulon started vigorous efforts to build the Luxgen own-brand five years ago, with Acer Inc. founder Stan Shih, High Tech Computer Corp. (HTC) CEO Peter Chou etc. having volunteered support.

The homegrown Luxgen7 MPV is powered by a 2,200cc turbo-charged engine supplied by Advance Power Investment Co. , Ltd. (CECTEK) under Yulon Group. The MPV is a seven-seater retailing from NT$800,000 to NT$1.06 million (US$24,615 to US$32,615 at US$1: NT$32.5) in Taiwan. Targeting the Toyota Previa as its major rival, the MPV anticipates to win a 20% share in the MPV segment.

The Luxgen7 MPV line will be added with a top-end executive version, the MPV-CEO, in the fourth quarter. Also Luxgen is scheduled to launch a 2,200cc sport utility vehicle (SUV) late this year or early 2010, as well as 1,600cc sedan later.
