Intelligent lighting controllers

EDEN Technology Co., Ltd., a leading manufacturer of lighting controllers and building automation systems in Taiwan, has led other domestic lighting-controller developers to control systems based on digital accessible lighting interface (DALI) protocol.

The control systems use DALI electronic ballasts accompanied by four feed wires, with two wires dealing with electrical power supply and the other two handling digital signal transmission. Soon, the company will introduce systems that beam digital signal over power wiring.

Features of the company's DALI control systems include lighting-intensity shift on an hourly or daily basis according to needs programmed into the system's control unit from personal computers or notebook computers. The control unit can be connected to a light sensor to detect environmental light intensity, making the system intelligent enough to automatically tune lighting intensity to meet to energy-saving requirement.

At parking lot, the intelligent system can be activated by drivers to provide guide light to parking spaces.

EDEN's controllers are adaptable to DALI ballasts from different suppliers. Mode setting, dimming and on-off can be done by PCs or notebook computers, making a lighting system efficient in energy saving and life cycle. EDEN controllers receive digitized identification code from DALI ballasts and assign them to a group of control commands, with which they communicate to decide dimming.

EDEN lighting control systems can be connected to building management systems through gateways or hubs. (KL)
