Grow lights, sun solarium lights, and LED desk lamps

Established in 1984, Mingkeda Industries Co., Ltd., or MKD, is a well known lighting manufacturer in mainland China that specializes in grow lights, sun solarium lights, and light emitting diode (LED) desk lamps.

Emitting light with wavelengths ranging from 6100nm to 7100nm and delivering a color temperature of 5,000K, the company's grow lights are ideal for growing salad greens, herbs, flowers, strawberries, tomatoes, and peppers. The lights guarantee a harvest in just 28 days.

The lights are fixed on houseplant hydroculture sinks containing seven seed pods. Made of special materials, the fertilized seed beds are 100% free of mold—a feature which helped them win a patent. Plant roots stretch freely under the water in the sink as a pump aerates the water to help photosynthesis.

MKD began grow-light production in 2005, when it signed a contract with AeroGrow International of the United States to supply tooling and molds for the lights. As the world's first kitchen garden appliance, the light received a Certificate of Excellence Award at the International Home & Housewares Show 2006 in Chicago.

The light is laden with features including automatic light on-off and nutrient addition, energy conservation (using a 26W 3U fluorescent lamp to produce 1,450 lumens for at least 6,000 hours), 100% germination, no need for help from natural light, and a near-perfect rainforest growing environment.

Most of the company's grow lights have been sold to North America and Europe, with a shipment volume amounting to hundreds of thousands of units a year.

MKD has recently added LED desk lamps and sun solarium lamps to its product line with the aim of winning more orders for such high-margin lamps. Lamps rated at 90W constitute the majority of the company's sun solarium products, while lamps rated above 10W account for the largest portion of its LED desk lamps.

Quality lens design enables the company's LED lamps to produce an even beam of light despite their multi-chip packages, eliminating the unwanted multi-shadow effect when the light shines upon an object. (KL)
