Green Directory Shows Eco-awareness at 2010 Automechanika Frankfurt

The 2010 Automechanika Frankfurt, the world's largest auto-parts, accessory, and repair equipment exhibition that attracts about 4,500 exhibitors and some 160,000 global visitors every two years, also has “green” concept as one of its main themes. Showing its dedication to eco-friendly auto parts and innovations, the show organizer began in 2008 issuing the Green Directory, containing items from different product categories that are eco-innovative.

The Green Directory is a buyer guide that points the way to auto parts that address environmental protection and the sustainability of the automotive aftermarket. "No issue will have such a decisive role in the future of the automotive industry as climate protection," the show organizer Messe Frankfurt said.

Some 25 participants and their particularly sustainable and emission-cutting products were chosen for the 2010 Automechanika Green Directory. An independent expert, Dr. Gerhard Angerer of the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI), reviewed all 60 entries in terms of innovation and sustainability. Points were then given based on materials, energy efficiency and emissions balance. The 25 participants with the most points are included in the Green Directory, which is a handy brochure, coupled with eye-catching signs shaped like leaves installed in the venue, that guide Automechanika visitors to the exhibitors and products listed.

New for the 2010 Automechanika is the presentation of a special award to the green product with the most points: this year's winner is AVL DiTEST GmbH for its AVL Pure Range Extender in the Systems category.

The AVL Range Extender assures a driver reaches the destination by being automatically activated as soon as the battery state-of-charge (SOC) falls below the preset limit or anticipated operation requires activation. Its rotary engine allows for a compact structure, vibrates minimally, and has maximum power density and low noise.
