Furniture upholstery fabrics

Established in 1989 in Taoyuan, northern Taiwan, Yison Interior Textiles Co., Ltd. is one of the few upholstery manufacturers keeping all of its manufacturing operations at home.

Initially Yison turned out fabrics for domestic furniture makers and exported a small portion of its output. Today the company sells 50% of its products in the domestic market and exports the other 50% to overseas clients, including those Taiwanese furniture makers that have relocated their production lines abroad.

“To stay competitive in the market, we have been working very hard to upgrade manufacturing technologies and facilities. We have purchased advanced machinery from Japan and Germany, and in 1998 we established an automatic warehousing system,” says Bill Jong, the company's general manager. “We have kept paring manufacturing costs by streamlining our facilities and labor force and by generating several different kinds of fabrics in smaller volume, instead of one kind in large volume, to attract buyers.”

Yison's upholstery fabrics are used mostly for sofa and chair covers and partition surfacing. To catch up with the world's environment-protection trend, the company has in recent years made more efforts on developing multifunctional and eco-friendly fabrics, which are mostly used for high-end and children furniture.

Thanks to the application of high technologies, Yison has newly developed a series of ‘OASIS 9000' fabrics with nano-grade, which are available in more than 70 colors and various patterns that can be applied to a wide variety of furniture items.

The company produces around 300,000 yards of fabrics a month at a price range of about US$2.5-20 per yard, and most of its fabrics have been patented in Taiwan, the United States and Canada, and have been sold under own brands—‘Yison' or ‘Yidartex'. (JL)
