Taipei, March 3, 2011 (CENS)--Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd. and Taiwan Mobile Corp. have begun to talk with China Telecom Co., Ltd., Shanghai Media & Entertainment Group and Wasu Online over cooperation on triple-play telecom service, which offers online TV, Internet access and cellular connection on one single broadband network.

On March 1, China Telecom Chairman Wang Xiaochu visited his counterparts in Chunghwa Telecom, currently Taiwan's No.1 telecom carrier, to talk over plans to expand their cooperation to include triple play service from undersea cable, mobile service, intelligent energy network, and Internet of Things. Telecom carriers on the two sides of the Taiwan Straits plan to bring their triple-play service to each other's turf.

Chunghwa Telecom executives pointed out that the company will put the mainland's TV channels on its network after acquiring Taiwan government's permissions. Taiwan Mobile is in talks with News Corp. over a deal to set up a joint venture to develop Chinese channels for its triple-play service in the mainland. Also, it has entered into alliance with several TV stations on the island to develop programming for its service.
