Taipei, March 7, 2011 (CENS)--With the number of factories rising, Taiwan's top-3 science parks, namely Hsinchu Science Park (HSP), Central Taiwan Science Park (CTSP) and Southern Taiwan Science Park (STSP), are expected to score a new high of NT$2.45 trillion in total revenue for this year, according to the National Science Council (NSC).

NSC officials say that the total revenue from the three science parks exceeded NT$2 trillion the first time to an all-time high of NT$2.15 trillion last year mainly on global economic recovery and popularity of emerging electronic devices as smartphones and tablet PCs. Furthermore, influx of contract orders from overseas enterprises and strong demand for materials and components used in optoelectronic devices also helped to drive revenue.

Of the total revenue, NT$1.17 trillion was generated at the HSP, NT$600 billion at the STSP and NT$363.2 billion at the CTSP, says NSC officials.

With larger enterprises in these parks, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd., United Microelectronics Corp. and Chimei Innolux Corp., to expand factories, revenue from the HSP is estimated to top NT$1.3 trillion this year, while that from the STSP and CTSP will also total NT$420 billion and NT$700 billion, respectively.

To accommodate more factories in the park, the HSP administration will allow more hinterland this year for development, as much as 22 hectares of new land for firms coveting for more area for factory expansion next year.

Meanwhile, the CTSP administration aims to attract 15 more enterprises this year, while STSP officials will focus on biotechnology and medical instruments for development in the park.
