2011/05/30 | By Quincy Liang

The Luxgen Motor Co., a subsidiary of Taiwan's Yulon auto group, held the global debut of its "neora" battery electric vehicle (BEV) concept car at the 14th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition (Auto Shanghai 2011) on Apr. 21-28.

At the Shanghai show, Luxgen also showcased other car models that will soon be produced in China by the Dongfeng Yulon Motor Co., a joint venture between Yulon and Chinese automaker Dongfeng. Other exhibits included the LUXGEN7 sport utility vehicle (SUV), LUXGEN7 CEO (top-end MPV), and LUXGEN7 multi-purpose van (MPV) EV+, a BEV model.

The "neora" integrates LUXGEN's intelligent technology expertise and the idea of green energy into a new intelligent EV concept,” commented James Shyr, executive vice president of the Hua-chuang Automobile Information Technical Center Co. (HAITEC), the R&D arm of Luxgen Motor. "The 'neora' perfectly represents LUXGEN's brand spirit of Think Ahead, and the new form of its appearance will be design cues for LUXGEN's upcoming models. Its streamlined flow and its innovative light weight, as well as fuel economy, represent the novelty of LUXGEN's energy-saving future technologies."

The transformation of a cold and rigid industrial product into an emotional vehicle is the purpose behind the appearance of the "neora,” said a Luxgen Motor official. LUXGEN's brand DNA, including exquisite detail, futuristic fashion, chic aesthetic, and innovation, is perfectly integrated in the car's design and creates a strong visual effect. The streamlined flow from the front end to the rest of the body forms into a fresh, bold, striking vitality.

The front-wheel-drive “neora” is propelled by a 180kW electric induction motor. The 1,600kg car can be accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds, and it has a top speed of 150 km/h.

The integrated high-power rechargeable battery pack can support 80% charging within only one hour, and the 48kWh lithium-ion batteries give "neora" a range of up to 400km when fully charged. The enjoyment of cozy sunshine and scenic views is provided by a polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) electric glass sunroof. Rear passengers can enjoy the infotainment system through a light-emitting diode (LED) screen, while the driver luxuriates in a seat with ergonomic comfort and the convenience of a heads-up display. An active intelligent information system can exchange information with other vehicles while providing guidance on the direction of travel.

In terms of fuel economy, aerodynamics, and aesthetics, the design of the "neora's" front end is revolutionary, with a minimum intake area that decreases drag and achieves both beauty and energy efficiency. A groundbreaking design concept is applied to the headlights, giving a high-tech visual effect. The wide angle of the rear side lights emphasizes the body's lines and its strong characteristics.

"To create inspiration in mobile life" is the design concept of "neora's" interior, Luxgen officials say. The company's commitment to environmental sustainability is communicated through the integration of natural and technological elements. Recycled wood is used in the interest of environmental sustainability, and the center console applies a raw-wood scheme with non-processed and non-dyed raw materials.

Company officials modestly point out that "Genius" is the beginning of all LUXGEN initiatives, that the enjoyment of "Luxury" fulfills all the driver's needs, and that the combination of the two words produces the “LUXGEN” name.
