Maker Wants “MIT” Mark to Protect Taiwan-made Furniture

2012/02/24 | By Judy Li

Taipei, Feb. 24, 2012 (CENS)--H.T. Lin, chairman of Oderbau Furniture, urges the government to establish the “Made-in-Taiwan” mark to guarantee the quality of Taiwan-made furniture.

Oderbau, established in 1987, is a Taiwanese furniture manufacturer turning out mainly beds, sofas, dinettes, end tables, and occasional chairs. Lin says that despite massive outflow of Taiwanese furniture manufacturers, there are still about 1,000 furniture makers on the island, most of which are threatened by underselling of products to Taiwan by makers in China in recent years.

Although China-made products are often seen as lower quality, yet consumers here are often drawn to their cheaper prices; so Lin urges the government to set up the “MIT” mark to differentiate Taiwan-made furniture to protect both consumers and manufacturers.
