AVIS Car Rental Enters Taiwan Market the First Time

2012/07/02 | By Andrew Wang

Taipei, July 2, 2012 (CENS)--With multinational service network and over 20 million car rentals a year, AVIS Car Rental, a well-known car rental company globally, is entering Taiwan’s market the first time to challenge over 800 existing rivals.

S.B. Peng, chairman of AVIS Taiwan, said that the company aims to be a top-three in Taiwan within five years to share the market valued at over NT$20 billion a year.

AVIS Taiwan will ally with “dodohome”, the biggest parking management company in Taiwan, plans to set up over 10 car-rental outlets island-wide including one at the Taoyuan International Airport, offering over 200 rentals in the first year.

At its recent opening ceremony AVIS said it will follow its global strategy to partner with Mercedes Taiwan to offer German cars, hence differentiating from the other car leasing firms.

S.B. Peng said that Taiwan is “becoming international” with increasing arrivals of international tourists and business travelers, but lacks a global car rental firm to meet upscale demand.

S.B. Peng said Taiwan has big potential in the car-rental business, in which 85% of the current 800 car-rental firms are small and medium-sized with less than 20 cars each for mainly local service. In contrast, AVIS is global with services available in over 175 countries.

AVIS has been in business in China for over 10 years to be the leader there. With more Chinese tourists allowed in Taiwan, AVIS Taiwan foresees growing business that is also driven by the estimated three million Taiwanese businessmen in China who occasionally return home.
