The 8th LED Lighting Taiwan, held as part of Photonics Festival Taiwan 2012 June 19-21, displayed various lighting products as well as newly-developed parts that enhance functionality, appeal and marketability of so-called innovative lighting products.

Edison Opto Corporation, maker of high-factor LED lighting in Taiwan, introduced the new EdiPower II HR series that are supposedly applicable to 4W-35W LED bulbs and can emit cold white, warm white or neutral white colors, powering a LED bulb to brightness up to 130 lm/W and high color rendering, being ideal for global markets.

The maker also introduced a new series of modules developed with HR techniques and its advantageous module design capacity, with the module being even more versatile to be compatible with LED bulbs, LED down lights, LED show light, or even LED tubes, hence becoming a range of quality LED lighting available for commercial and residential applications.

“We make customized lighting for any customer to provide optimal lighting solutions to those who demand high quality,” says the maker, which earlier introduced LDMS (Lighting Design Manufacturing Service) as made-to-order services that turn out parts as well as complete products.

Established in October 2001, Edison initially specialized in making high-factor LED parts and SSL (Solid State Lighting) modules, then set up a subsidiary in Dongguan, southern China in October 2006 to expand, and invested another US$13 million to set up one more subsidiary in Yangchou, central China, aiming to tap opportunities in emerging LED lighting markets.

Replaceable LED Bulbs
To offset LED lighting's higher prices as major hindrance to buying such energy-saving lighting products, Shye Hsing focuses on making replaceable LED lighting products, or replacement LED bulbs, instead of integrated LED lights that must be tossed at end of life to demand repurchase at higher cost.

Besides helping consumers save money, Shye Hsing says that enabling users to keep old fixtures for re-use is eco-friendly. Besides, replacement of LED bulbs allows DIY reinstallation while integrated LED lights, composed of electronics, call for technicians to replace, if at all feasible.

Markets are dominated by integrated or disposable LED lights that take up 95%-plus share, says Shye Hsing. Fortunately experts predict replaceable LED lights as the future market trend, with such experts calling for the use of replaceable LED lights at an industrial trend seminar held at the Frankfurt lighting show in March this year, according to Wu Chia-huw, general manager.

Established in 1975, Shye Hsing was first a manufacturer of traditional light bulbs, but now focuses on making LED lighting products for indoor and outdoor use, and has obtained patents for innovative functions like the replaceable structure of LED bulbs. Besides having a competent R&D team, the company is expanding distribution network to make quality LED lighting available to all consumers.

Eco-friendlyTaiwan Oasis Technology Co. (OasisTek), established in 1974, originally specialized in mold design and production, then branched into LED lighting parts design and production in 1978, which has become its core business. It is also Taiwan's first-generation company to make optical lens for LED lighting.

OasisTek later applied its optical lens technology to develop the LED street lamp dubbed “Star Vessel” that was introduced this year, featuring a special reflective lens to reduce glare which is harmful to both human and animals. “The street lamp is ideal for parks, farms without hazards to environments,” says Tom Liu, a sales representative.

Custom LED Solutions
Epileds Co., specializing in production of high-factor LED lighting products, introduced a series of LED bulbs with different lighting colors. “During the early stage of LED lighting, we had to expand product line and strengthen product functions at the same time,” says general manager Hsu Ming-shen.

Hsu positions Epileds as a small but versatile company capable of providing customized solutions to different lighting segments, also predicting severe competition soon to result in market shakeout amid the current slowdown, prescribing professionalism plus well-developed sales network as the key for survival.
