Taiwan's Lighting Makers Focus on Eco-friendly Products

One maker offers PDA-enabled lighting that also home-scans

Taiwanese lighting manufacturers are competing to introduce eco-friendly products as

LED (light emitting diode), electrode-less and Internet-controlled ones to attract orders when the green cause continues to gain ever rising importance.

Everlight Electronics Co., Ltd.
Everlight Electronics Co., Ltd., world's No.1 LED packager by capacity, recently released its 9W SL-SV60A and 15W SL-60G series LED light bulbs, as well as SL-Victory LED streetlight series.

SL-SV60A series comes with an E27 screw plug design on one side and a domed shade mounted on the globe, enabling even, soft lighting across 120 degrees and 350-degree rotation. With lighting fixture, the bulb delivers 700lm and 800lm in luminosity.

SL-SV60G series features omni-directional beam angle of 270 degrees and uniform light, making it an ideal replacement for 75W incandescent bulb, which is also dimmable with 1,100 lm capacity.

Both families deliver a minimum CRI of 80 and come in 2,700K and 5,700K in color temperature spec. Also, they come with life warranty of 40,000 hours. The difference is: SL-SV60A weights 135g, compared with SL-60G's 225g.

Weighing only four kilograms and 40.4cm (L) by 20.7cm (W) by 12.4cm (H) in size, SL-Victory series is claimed to be the lightest LED streetlight. The streetlight is equipped with a thermal ventilation system similar to sports car's side vent, assuring excellent thermal dissipation effect.

Power supply can be conveniently removed from or installed in the light from an opening at the top of the light's case by lifting the opening's cap. Removal and installation are also easy and safe, using no tools at all.

SL-Victory supports a variety of intelligent wireless control interfaces, allowing it to keep up with future streetlighting trends, with another notable feature being a one-piece housing.

With the company's proprietary optical optimization, thermo management, mechanism refinement and circuitry, SL-Victory has long lifespan.

BYus Technology Inc.
BYus Technology Inc. releases a series of LED lamps for indoor applications that highlight its riveted thermal fin module—an unconventional thermal module approach vs. traditional die-casting approach. According to the company, riveting achieves bigger cooling surface on each fin for taking up relatively smaller joints compared to die-casting's. The maker has, tapping riveting advantages, introduced a series of high-power LED lamps rated above 12W, including light bulb, MR16, AR111, PAR20, PAR30, and PAR38.

A startup set up in 2012, the maker, with its own brand “BYus”, has R&D and management teams made up of specialists with over 10 years of involvement in the LED industry, specializing in thermal module, electrical circuitry, optics, controller, module assembly, and lighting hardware.

Anteya Technology Corp.
Anteya Technology Corp. has launched a smart lighting dimmer called “iDimmer,” designed around power line communication (PLC) technology to be free from TRIAC dimmer's inherent inability to seamlessly tune LED light with sub-30% intensity.

iDimmer can linearly dim LED intensity between 1% and 100%, also with adjustable light color temperature between 2,700K and 6,000K. Consumers, with PLC programming, can easily dim iDimmer for favorite color temperature and intensity, with the dimmer being 12 cm. long, 7 cm. wide, 4.3 cm. high and 0.148 kgs.

Anteya, founded in 2003 in southern Taiwan, has introduced a lineup of LED lamps, including downlight, light bulb, candle bulb, recessed light, PAR light, bay light, light tube, streetlight, light strip, wall washer, night light, tiny flashlight, and mood light, having won four patents for LED packages, 15 patents for lamps and five patents for lighting systems, and mostly registered in China, the United States, Germany, France, Italy, EU, Japan and South Korea as well as Taiwan.

Top Energy Saving System Corp.
Top Energy Saving System Corp. (TESS) rolls out a unique 12W LED light bulb that is recyclable/disposable.

Being 6 cm (L) x 6 cm (W) x 12.6 cm (H) and 105 grams, the bulb is designed based on modularization, mainly of a light-source and a power module, enabling easy replacement when necessary.

The company is able to tap modularization by integrating capability in thermo- management, circuitry, mechanical refinement and optical optimization (TEMO), thereby achieving the crucial “light engine” module.

Founded in 2007 as designer and manufacturer of LED lighting equipment, TESS has since launched various products, including 13W high-power bulb series, 60W streetlight series, 7W non fan-cooled bulb series, recessed lamp series and MR16 series, having also received safety certificates as TUV, UL, FCC, CNS, and CE.

Taiwan Epoch Chemtronics Corp.
Taiwan Epoch Chemtronics Corp., opened in 1997 as a manufacturer and designer of LED backlight modules and then branching into lighting in 2009, has unveiled ultra-slim LED downlights of only 18.6 cm in diameter, 1.9 cm in thickness, and 0.5 kg in weight.

The series, dubbed CL-D060, is designed using edge-lit LED technology, hence achieving lightweight, compactness, and uniform light output. The compactness helps to achieve aesthetic appeal and allows interior designers more freedom, especially when dealing with tightly-spaced rooms.

In 2010, the company rolled out the brand “Epoch Lighting” to promote lighting equipment, which is certified with GS, CE and CNS.

Avertronics Inc.
Avertronics Inc.'s wireless mood-lighting control-network gateway provides easy setting of mood lighting with LED lighting, whose color change largely depends on its “intelligent two-way energy-saving thematic lighting planning and control system.”

The gateway is easily accessible to consumers who are connected to the Internet with Wi-Fi enabled digital devices as PC, laptops and tablet PCs. The system enables, via PDAs, adjusting light color and intensity to choose among the 100 color settings under the 20 preprogrammed groupings. The gateway also allows on-the-go home scanning via smartphone by downloading apps from its website.

The gateway provides input/output port that turns an ordinary wall-mounted switch to double as mood-lighting switch.

Founded in 1986, this maker has become a pure manufacturer of connectors, wire-harness systems, wireless control systems and lighting control systems with integrated manufacturing.

Yun Chang Technology Co., Ltd.
Yun Chang Technology Co., Ltd., headquartered in Hsinchu Science Park in northern Taiwan, released several electrode-less fluorescent lights including its YCCTEKEFL-K02 bay light.

K02 is equipped with the company's ballast-integrated electrode-less bulb and uses its unique technologies, including the “double oval centers” light distribution technology, developed for farther, lighter and precision emittance yet eliminating unwanted scatter. The unique high-reflection technology makes this fixture ideal for street-lighting or similar applications, from heights of 6~10 meters or even higher.

K02's smart design enables compatibility with the company's 100W electrode-less bulb as replacement for 500W mercury lamp for better light quality and luminous efficacy while delivering 80% energy savings. Other notable design features include a patented mirrored aluminum reflector and aluminum-extrusion ballast box.

TYC Brother Industrial Co., Ltd.
TYC Brother Industrial Co., Ltd., a leading auto-lamp maker in Taiwan, has released a series of high-performance energy-saving luminaires for daily use since branching into general lighting, including LED and high-intensity discharge (HID) streetlights as well as LED indoor and outdoor lamps.

With the company's patented cooling technology, its LED streetlights have been field tested to retain over 99% of luminosity over 35 months of continual operation. The thermal-conductivity technology is underpinned by an Iso-thermal Vapor Chamber (IVC) and a vacuum hypolimnion board.

With a unique rectangular reflector, the company's streetlights deliver uniform light with CRI of above 70.

TYC high-performance luminaires are designed in-house by an R&D team knowledgeable in optics, tooling, regulatory standards, quality verification and certification, with all the lights examined on certified optical analytical tools and stringent test standards.

Seed Lighting Design Co., Ltd.
Seed Lighting Design Co., Ltd., a lighting-fixture designer, has introduced a series of friendly indoor lighting fixtures, including its CARRY floor/table lamps, FORTRESS wall lamps, and ARCHER floor/table lamps.

In white, CARRY's design is inspired by the idea to make life comfortable, with a round wooden base to hold coins or knickknacks and USB sockets for charging PD as well as powering audio devices and coffeemakers, with the item available in desk lamps and floor lamps.

FORTRESS is a wall lamp collection with plastered-concrete lampshade and LED bulbs, being notable for its lampshade designed especially to match utilitarian surfaces as concrete walls to evoke sense of solidity and unassuming aesthetics. Both concrete and LED are eco-friendly, with the lamps available in round and square versions.

ARCHER lamps have bow-shaped arm of fine-grained wood with zelkova texture, with the bowstring designed to adjust the arm angle, and the collection available in table-lamp, miniature floor lamp and normal floor lamp versions.

Forward Electronics Co.
Forward Electronics Co., Ltd.'s modularized high bay lights are beam angle adjustable due to the tunable lens with 20~40 degree adjustment. The module, dubbed NLFL03N, emits 85 lumen-per-watt at AC 90~264V, with Cree LEDs and IP of 65.

The maker, subsidiary of the Tatung Group, has introduced LED light bulbs as incandescent bulb replacements. Its 8W bulb produces 800 lumens, 10W bulb 900 lumens, and 16W bulb 1,400 lumens, all with 80-plus CR.

Delta Solid-State Lighting
Delta Solid-State Lighting (SSL) Business Unit, a subsidiary of Delta Electronics Inc., has introduced a series of LED light bulbs to replace compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) and incandescent bulbs with universal input voltage, dimmability, appealing outside design, various lighting angles, 90% recyclable material, and 40,000-hour life cycle.

The luminaires, namely high-bay/canopy light, parking space light, and can light, are designed for indoors and outdoors calling for low-maintenance, durability and energy-efficiency.

Delta's streetlights provide high power factor correction greater than 0.97 and power efficiency higher than 92%. With compact light engine, the lights highlight efficient cooling, scalability, easy maintenance, and lightweight, as well as outstanding electronics and LED optics.

Edison Opto Corp.
Edison Opto Corp. has released various LED products, including a family of 150W high-bay lamps and high-luminosity packages.

Driven at 3,200mA, the high-bay lamps emit 12,000 lumens, with 70~140 degree beam angle, hence being ideal for indoor applications in factories, depots and stadiums.

Its EdiPower II HS series of chip-on-board (COB) packages come in 5W, 6W, 7W, 10W, 15W, 24W and 30W, with maximum illumination of 2,800lm at drive current of 1,500mA, and compatible with general and specific lighting as MR16 and projectors for its CRI above 80.

The ET-3A3535 series is another innovative product, suitable for general indoor lighting as PAR, light bulb and downlight for its CRI above 80 and 100lm warm-white light, with drive current below 350mA.

Home Resource Inc.
Home Resource Inc.'s “JD Light” multifunctional lamp is patented for several advantages, being rechargeable with its dedicated 12V battery pack or cigarette lighter receptacle for excellent portability. Recharging takes around 12 hours to enable 10 hours of lighting on one side of the lamp, or half that to light both sides.

The light has 60 0.5W white LEDs and 48 0.067W red LEDs to produce 2,100 lumens, being only 9.2 kgs., 64mm (H) x 29mm (W) x 180mm (L), with IP of 44.
