Mercedes-Benz Taiwan Retains Lead in Taiwan's Luxury-car Segment for 5th Consecutive Year in 2013
2014/02/26 | By Quincy LiangDriven by hot sales of entry-level models, German carmaker Mercedes-Benz scored a record-high annual sales volume in Taiwan of 16,700 units in 2013, up 25% from the previous year and keeping the brand in the lead in Taiwan's imported luxury-car segment for the fifth consecutive year.
Eckat Mayer, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Taiwan Ltd., pointed out that Taiwan's luxury-car segment is expected to continue expanding by over 5%, and his company will see continued sales growth and challenge to retain the lead for six years in a row in 2014.
Mercedes-Benz Taiwan's distributors disclosed that the brand has mapped out a conservative internal annual sales goal for 2014, i.e. volume growth of 5%, or about 17,000 units. However, they added, the volume is expected to surge to some 20,000 units driven by the launch of the GLA and new C models in Taiwan this year.
Sales of Mercedes on the island continued to increase in January, with 1,815 units sold in the month, representing a 38.3% year-on-year (YoY) increase.
Mayer said that his company aims to achieve sales growth this year by further expanding product line-up and upgrading customer experiences. This year, Mercedes-Benz Taiwan is scheduled to import new GLA, a luxury compact crossover vehicle unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show, remodeled C sedans, and special-edition Smart mini cars.
