Delta Likely to be Main Beneficiary of Taiwan's Total LED Streetlight Replacement

2014/12/04 | By Ken Liu

Delta Electronic Inc., having shipped over 120,000 LED streetlights worldwide, is likely to be a primary beneficiary of Taiwan's plan to replace the remaining 692,000 mercury streetlights on the island with light-emitting diode (LED) counterparts in two years.

Taiwan's Cabinet recently approved a plan submitted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) for such replacement, after having spent over the last few years NT$5.49 billion (US$183 million) in similar upgrades.

Taiwan will be the world's first nation to light all roads with LED lamps after the said project.

Delta, a major LED streetlight maker in Taiwan, has secured New Taipei City Government contracts to install 87,000 LED streetlights in the city where 180,000 mercury streetlights await replacement.

Industry executives say Delta's chances of global success is positively correlated with its volume of contracts won in Taiwan. Market consultant IHS says global installations of LED streetlights are projected to double to 54.8 million units by 2017.

Also sizzling sales of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus worldwide help to drive Delta's growth for being the main supplier of choke, which  blocks higher-frequency alternating current to  allow lower frequency direct current to pass, to Apple iPhones. (KL)
