Honn Shing Introduces Patented, Blade-retractable Ceiling Fan

2015/03/04 | By Ken Liu

Honn Shing Enterprise Co., Ltd., a Taiwanese ceiling fan veteran founded in 1973, introduces several striking products, including the HS2014ORB ceiling fan featuring retractable fan blades and the HS2011-P ceiling fan with LED lamps.

HS2014ORB, debuted in 2014, comes with four plastic blades and a 40W circular T5 lamp in addition to a remote control, with the unit measuring 1,146mm in diameter when the blades are fully-unfolded.

While the retractable fan uses a direct-current (DC) motor for enhanced driving power, the blade structure and form have been designed for optimized airflow to minimize noise due to blade rotation to almost zero during low speed.

HS2014ORB is patented for exterior design and has invention patent pending. The company plans to integrate LED lamps into the next generation fan, 2014BN.

HS2011-P is the third generation of the HS2011 family, whose first and second generations have solid wood blades. HS2011-P's plastic blades are one-piece injected whereas the first and second generations' wooden blades are shaped on a computer numerical control (CNC) turning machine.

Relatively more rigid plastic blades allow HS2011-P to achieve stronger airflow than its two cousins as well as impart contemporary look whereas wooden blades are favored by those looking for traditionally flavored decor.

Like HS2014, HS2011-P comes with a DC motor. But HS2011-P is outfit with an 18W LED lamp. The HS2011 line works with both AC and DC motor.

The HS2011 family, with tri-blade, is patented for exterior and mechanical design.

All of the company's ceiling fans are tested for noise at a certified, in-house acoustical  chamber.

These fans are targeted at high-end markets, where suppliers compete on design rather than price, with applications including households,  commercial settings as hotels, and the main markets in Germany, Japan and Australia.

To ensure product quality, the company independently designs motors for its fans, using  quality copper coils for AC or DC motors. But DC motors are mostly used due to several merits including low noise, power consumption not to mention high output.

In its first five years, Honn Shing only produced fan-blade holders in its two factories spread over 20,000 square meters, but has been since 1978 assembling ceiling fan sets.

The company outsources parts for its ceiling fans under development based on advice of its R&D unit, which designs and tests fans; while its quality control unit thoroughly examines all the fans before delivery.
