China Motor Corporation (CMC) announced a partnership between its parent company Yulon Group and Taiwan's leading electric scooter maker Gogoro on Thursday.

According to CMC's General Manager Chen Zhao-wen, the partnership entails equipping its eMoving electric scooter series with the Gogoro Network smart battery swapping platform by the end of 2021. eMoving would target the current three different powering systems, such as fast charging, home charging, and battery swapping.

There are currently several firms already working with Gogoro's battery swapping platform, including Aeon, PGO, Suzuki, and Yamaha. Compared to those firms, CMC will continue to maintain its charging platform for scooters but become a new option under Gogoro's battery-swapping network. Users will get more charging options to choose from, while CMC can enjoy greater flexibility.

CMC currently sells around 6,000 eMoving scooters each year. Gogoro CEO Horace Lu considers CMC's eMoving among the leading brand in the electric scooter field. Gogoro is looking at new ways to meet the market demands. The firm has joined the PBGN alliance, intending to bolster the industry with crucial scooter parts, new technology, expanding other scooter models compatible with their smart battery swapping platform.
