Innolux and Kymeta's New-Gen Antenna

The new-generation offering called the LC Meta-Surface Antenna co-developed by Innolux and Kymeta boasts zero dead angles in terms of reception and will be used in Toyota's upcoming hydrogen-powered Mirai model.

The collaboration would mark the latest trend in the automotive connectivity sector as automotive firms move to obtain and apply the latest technology to give them a leg-up in this emerging industry.

The LC Meta-Surface Antenna is marketed as the best solution to resolve reception issues due to lower costs and flat plate antennas' inherent advantages. Compared to the conventional dish antennas, which usually require separate support to hold them up and adjust their placement to receive weaker signals, flat plate antennas tick off all the boxes on this front.

Kymeta's aggressive development in compact and flat plate antennas that would not require position adjustment to receive proper satellite reception has garnered attention from automotive firms, specifically Toyota, the second largest in the world.

Commenting on the new technology, Taiwan Merck Ltd. Chairman Lee Chun-lung said Innolux's latest offering that boasts zero dead-angles can help reduce machinery part failures.
