Mitsubishi Partners with Foxconn and Yulon to Launch Taiwan-Made EVs for Global Market by 2026
2025/05/07 | By EDNMitsubishi Motors of Japan has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Foxtron Vehicle Technologies, a joint venture between Taiwan’s Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) and Yulon Motor, to co-develop a new electric vehicle (EV) model. Under the agreement, the vehicle will be designed by Foxtron and manufactured by Yulon at its Miaoli Sanyi factory in Taiwan. The new EV is scheduled for release in the second half of 2026, targeting overseas markets, beginning with Australia and New Zealand.
As Taiwan’s only car group with full in-house R&D capabilities, Yulon Group continues to expand its diversified development strategy and open-value-chain business model. Through strategic collaboration, local manufacturing, and increased localization of components, Yulon aims to advance Taiwan’s domestic auto industry and further integrate into the global market.
Yulon has extensive experience in vehicle production, not only manufacturing its self-developed LUXGEN brand but also serving as a long-time contract manufacturer for international brands such as Nissan and Mitsubishi. Yulon emphasized that this partnership with Mitsubishi—one of its longstanding collaborators—was key to securing this new OEM production order. The cooperation marks a significant step forward in Taiwan’s entry into the global EV supply chain.
Under this project, Foxtron will operate under its CDMS (Contract Design and Manufacturing Service) model to offer an open EV platform to global carmakers, while Yulon will handle the vehicle production. The Sanyi plant currently manufactures the LUXGEN n7 electric SUV and is preparing a new production line for the Model B, which will be available in both left-hand-drive (for Taiwan) and right-hand-drive (for international markets) versions.
Yulon reiterated its multi-track strategy in the automotive sector, focusing heavily on the development of new-energy vehicles. While continuing to build its LUXGEN brand, the company’s growing role as a global OEM manufacturer for international brands like Mitsubishi highlights Taiwan’s rising EV R&D and production capabilities. The partnership stands as a key milestone in showcasing Taiwan’s ability to compete globally in the EV industry.
