CES Set to Open as AI Heavyweights Face Off, Spotlighting Laptops, Foldables, and Robotics

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) will take place in Las Vegas from January 6 to 9, with announcements and press events expected to begin as early as January 4. This year's exhibition is anticipated to showcase a broader integration of artificial intelligence across everyday consumer products, including laptops, smart home devices, televisions, and wearables. Robotics is also expected to be a major focus, with industry observers suggesting that humanoid robots may make appearances on the show floor.
NVIDIA Chief Executive Jensen Huang and AMD Chair and CEO Lisa Su are both scheduled to deliver keynote addresses a day before the exhibition, setting the stage for a high-profile showdown between two of the industry's most influential AI leaders. Market participants view the dueling keynotes as an early signal of competitive positioning for the AI market heading into 2026.
According to expectations compiled by technology publication, The Verge, several product categories are likely to draw particular attention:
Laptops
With the exception of Apple, most major technology companies are expected to unveil new laptop models at CES. This year's releases will reportedly center on three new processor platforms: Intel's Panther Lake, Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2, and AMD's "Gorgon Point" series. While Intel and Qualcomm have been emphasizing performance and graphics capability, AMD has already demonstrated compelling results through its Strix Halo platform with integrated graphics. Beyond chip upgrades, manufacturers are also expected to experiment with new form factors, including rollable displays, dual-screen designs, and foldable laptops.
Smart Home
Robotics is expected to be particularly prominent this year, with advances in computer vision accelerating the adoption of robotic assistants in home environments. AI-driven enhancements are also reshaping home security cameras, which are evolving from passive monitoring tools into integral components of broader home automation systems. Smart locks are likewise expected to remain a major product category.
Gaming
CES 2025 is not expected to generate the same level of excitement among PC gamers as last year. NVIDIA's RTX 50 Super series may be delayed, as Intel's latest desktop GPUs have yet to gain market confidence, and AMD's gaming graphics lineup has tempered expectations. However, Lenovo may introduce a gaming laptop featuring a rollable display, as well as a SteamOS version of its existing Legion Go 2 handheld gaming device.
Televisions
The RGB LED television trend, sparked by Hisense at last year's CES, is expected to reach new heights. Samsung and LG have both announced plans to introduce smaller-sized RGB LED models, while TCL is also expected to reveal similar developments. Key questions remain around pricing and commercialization timelines.
Smartphones
CES is not traditionally a major venue for smartphone launches, and devices that do appear tend to be unconventional. One of the most anticipated announcements is the potential global debut of Samsung's tri-fold smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold.
Wearables and Health Technology
Extended reality (XR) and AI-powered devices are expected to feature more prominently this year, particularly smart glasses. The distinction between smart eyewear and head-mounted displays is increasingly blurred, with some devices rumored to incorporate built-in displays.
