Under the support of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) and the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), Taiwan's cross-domain smart healthcare capabilities took center stage at MEDICA 2025 in Düsseldorf, Germany. The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) announced a cooperation agreement with Belgium's IMEC — establishing a Taiwan-Europe collaboration mechanism in smart medical and chip technologies.

Taiwan's “Taiwan MedTech Pavilion”, gathering nearly 50 leading industry, academic and research institutions including Compal Electronics, Realtek Semiconductor, and Enocell Technology, was established to showcase the nation’s integrated smart-healthcare achievements across AI, chips and medical-device domains.

Concurrently, ITRI and IMEC signed a cooperation agreement to jointly pursue advanced healthcare technologies, with a focus on microfluidic valve system integration and digital ELISA platforms. Dr Peter Peumans, Senior Vice President of IMEC Life Sciences Technologies, and Dr Yao-Yu Chuang, Director of ITRI’s Biomedical & Medical Devices Research Laboratories, represented the organisations at the signing.

At the pavilion's opening ceremony, distinguished guests including Ambassador Hsieh Chih-wei to the EU and Belgium, Dr Lin Te-sheng (Director-General, Industry-Academia Collaboration Division, NSTC), Ms Carmen Berger (Director, MEDICA & COMPAMED Exhibitions) and Prof Frederik Wenz (Director, University Medical Center Freiburg) attended, collectively recognising Taiwan’s excellence in AI-chip-medical integration.

Supported by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the National Science and Technology Council, ITRI led nearly 50 Taiwanese smart‐healthcare and med-tech firms to MEDICA 2025 in Germany and signed a cooperation agreement with Belgium’s IMEC to establish a Taiwan-Europe smart-healthcare & chip tech collaboration mechanism.
