The four-day Indonesia International Furniture Expo (IFEX) 2014 will be jointly held by the Indonesia Rattan Furniture and Craft Association (AMKRI) and UBM Asia at the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) and Jakarta Convention Center (JCC).
AMKRI chairman Soenoto said that around 500 small, medium and large furniture enterprises would join the expo, which he claimed would be the first of its kind to be held here.
He said the exhibition, which is expected to attract 5000 buyers from 110 countries, would display furniture made from various materials, mostly from mahogany and teak. "There will also be furniture made from rattan, bamboo, even mango tree timber," he said.
According to Soenoto, Indonesia exported furniture worth US$1.7 billion last year, behind China and Vietnam, which shipped $45 billion $4 billion worth of furniture respectively in the same period.
Trade Ministry director general for national export development Gusmardi Bustami said furniture exports were expected to increase by almost three-fold to around $5 billion within five years.
