The 2025 Kaohsiung International Building Materials Expo opened with great fanfare at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center on September 12. Featuring nearly 450 booths, it is southern Taiwan's largest professional building materials exhibition. As an industry benchmark event, it attracted both professionals and the general public. On opening day alone, attendance exceeded 5,000 visitors, with bustling crowds filling the exhibition halls. Many exhibitors reported being overwhelmed by the influx of buyers and visitors, underscoring the event’s high popularity and strong business potential.

This year’s exhibition placed a spotlight on low-carbon building materials, eco-friendly coatings, and smart home products, reflecting rising market demand for “functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability.” With energy conservation and carbon reduction becoming global priorities, Taiwanese companies are advancing toward higher value-added production and international markets through innovative designs and environmentally friendly materials.

A major highlight of the expo is the concurrent professional forum, organized by the Kaohsiung City Interior Design and Renovation Association. Running from September 13 to 14, the forum features seven themed lectures delivered by industry experts and brand representatives. Topics cover sustainability, design, and construction management. On the first day, ALASKA Home Appliances shared insights on “Creating Clean Air at Home,” highlighting the importance of indoor air quality. Zhan Sheng Lighting presented “Lighting Aesthetics and Smart Carbon Reduction,” followed by Boli Kitchen Design’s session on “Crafting the Soul of Home: The Essence and Details of Japanese Kitchen Design.”

The forum continues tomorrow with sessions on construction practices and green coating applications. Wenwen Technology will cover “Sweat-Resistant Design for Building Facades” and “Dust Control Management at Renovation Sites.” Julin Development will present “Practical Wooden Structure Building Renovation Design,” and Hong Paint will conclude with “The New Darling of Interior Design: Creative Coatings for Textured Finishes.”

The grand opening ceremony drew a number of distinguished guests, including Lin Jingxian, Director of the Southern District Urban Infrastructure Engineering Branch, Ministry of the Interior’s Land Management Bureau; Kaohsiung City Deputy Mayor Lin Chin-jung; Public Works Bureau Director Yang Chin-fu; as well as Luo Han-long, Chairman of the Kaohsiung City Interior Design and Renovation Trade Association; Liu Yi-xin, Chairman of the Republic of China Interior Design and Renovation Trade Association Federation; and Liu Jun-liang, Chairman of the Taiwan Province Interior Design and Renovation Trade Association Federation.

A special highlight of the ceremony was the “Kaohsiung City Photovoltaic Smart Building Label Award Ceremony.” Since its launch in 2017, this certification program has encouraged the installation of photovoltaic and smart renewable energy systems in buildings. Now in its eighth year, the program awarded one Gold Label, seven Silver Labels, and two Bronze Labels in 2025, recognizing the industry’s achievements in promoting green energy applications and smart building development in line with the city’s net-zero policy goals.

The Kaohsiung International Building Materials Expo runs through September 15, open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM (until 4:00 PM on the final day). Admission is free. With the combined strength of both exhibition and forum, the event aims to inject greater momentum for sustainable and innovative growth into southern Taiwan’s architectural design and building materials industries.
