AI Boom Accelerates Demand for High-Performance Storage, Driving Taiwan’s Supply Chain
2026/01/23 | By Sherry ChenAs AI computing capacity continues to scale and models grow more complex, the rapid expansion of inference applications is driving an explosion in data generation. Storage has become a critical pillar of AI infrastructure, fueling rising demand for enterprise-grade solid-state drives (SSDs) and high-performance storage solutions. Within Taiwan’s supply chain, companies such as Phison Electronics and ASolid Technology have made investments early in game, accelerating technology upgrades and portfolio realignment.
Phison notes that the proliferation of AI inference is prompting cloud service providers to increase procurement of enterprise SSDs and expand storage capacity on a sustained basis. As AI-driven data volumes rise, storage has shifted from a discretionary cost to a non-negotiable requirement, accelerating the transition toward higher-capacity, higher-reliability, and higher-performance systems. In response, Phison has increasingly focused on enterprise SSDs, AI applications, and industrial markets, reducing exposure to consumer electronics through product differentiation and deeper technological integration. Its aiDAPTIV+ platform extends the company’s capabilities from controllers and firmware to system-level AI solutions for training and inference environments.

ASolid Technology is also upgrading storage products across SD cards, USB devices, and eMMC interfaces to meet higher specifications and emerging use. The convergence of AI, 5G, and the Internet of Things is expanding edge computing and endpoint deployment, raising requirements for storage performance, stability, and capacity, and driving demand for more advanced controller technologies.
Industry observers note that as AI pushes computing power to new heights, the importance of storage and data management is rising in lockstep, creating a durable growth trajectory for high-end storage suppliers.
