Taiwanese Companies Expand in Japan DIY Market as 2025 Show Scales Up

2025/07/29 | By CENS

The 60th Japan DIY HOMECENTER Show was held from August 29 to 31, 2024, at Makuhari Messe, Chiba Prefecture. Despite Typhoon Shanshan affecting western Japan during the period, the event saw strong attendance, drawing 603 exhibitors from eight countries. Both the show’s scale and visitor numbers surpassed the previous year, demonstrating the industry’s vitality and international influence.

In 2024, Taiwan was represented by 37 companies, ranking second among national pavilions and reflecting a nearly 48% increase from the previous edition. This growth highlights Taiwanese manufacturers’ strong commitment and active investment in the Japanese market. Taiwanese exhibitors covered sectors such as hand tools, hardware, building materials, gardening equipment, household goods, fasteners, and plastic products.Notable Taiwanese exhibitors included Gong Maw, Easy Tool, Tong Lee, Nusharp, Avatack, Achem, Iron Man, Jieh Ming, Orix, and KSS.During the show, Taiwanese firms engaged in face-to-face meetings with major Japanese distributors such as Kohnan Shoji, Royal HC, AYAHADIO, and DCM, creating new opportunities for collaboration. Exhibitors expressed strong confidence in the demand from the Japanese market and satisfaction with the outcomes of the event.

The exhibition also responded to shifting consumer trends by expanding categories such as automotive care and beauty, pet supplies, camping equipment, and disaster preparedness, which together accounted for over 30% of the displays. With earthquakes frequent in Japan, disaster-related products—including emergency power supplies, water purifiers, first-aid kits, and preserved Taiwanese foods such as braised pork rice and sesame oil chicken—attracted significant interest.

Looking ahead, the 61st edition of the show will return to Makuhari Messe from August 21 to 23, 2025. Organized by the Japan Hardware Manufacturers Association, the event plans to feature over 500 companies, 1,200 booths, and is expected to draw more than 70,000 visitors—setting a new record. Taiwanese companies are gearing up, and more firms with strong innovation and branding are encouraged to join in seizing new opportunities in Japan and showcasing the strength and appeal of “Made in Taiwan” on the international stage.
